SPRINGFIELD, VA (January 17, 2026) -- The No. 11 Tufts University men's squash team fell to No. 4 University of Virginia, 9–0, on Friday afternoon at The St. James in Springfield, Va.
Despite the final score, the Jumbos showed resilience throughout the lineup against one of the nation's top programs. Several matches featured extended rallies and competitive games as Tufts tested a deep Cavaliers squad ranked fourth nationally.
At the No. 6 position, Jared Chin opened strongly by taking the first game before Virginia's Maxwell Velazquez responded to secure the match in four games. Mustafa Ayaz battled in a tight third game at No. 7, pushing the frame to extra points before Virginia's Henry Raine closed out the contest, 13–11.
The exhibition match capped a full afternoon of squash, with Ali Tarek pushing UVA's Isaac Mitchell to a decisive fifth game before falling, 11-6, in the final frame.
Tufts is off before hosting Williams Saturday, January 31 in Tufts Squash Center.
