CAMBRIDGE, MA (October 10, 2026) – The 2026-27 Tufts University men's rowing season began today with the Jumbos' participation at the Head of the Kevin regatta on the Charles River.
A prelude to the world-famous Head of the Charles Regatta coming up next weekend, the Head of the Kevin is a trial run across the three-mile Charles River course. This is the third year of the event, in which Tufts competed each time.
Tufts was in their first event under new head men's rowing coach
Trevor Appier. The Jumbos had their first varsity and second varsity eights in action today, out of a total 129 entries. Competitors in varsity heavyweight and lightweight, club, master and youth divisions rowed as eights, fours, doubles and singles in a wildly various day of action.
The Jumbo men's varsity eight was third overall with their 14:46.6 time, behind only the Riverside men's club eight (14:44.6) and the MIT lightweight eight (14:44.8). The Tufts team lined up with coxswain:

The Jumbos will return next weekend to compete at the Head of the Charles. The feature event will be the Collegiate Eights, in which Tufts was the runner-up last year and won in 2023.
