MARBLEHEAD, MA / NEW LONDON, CT – The Tufts University coed sailing team was eliminated by Yale University in the quarterfinals of the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association (NEISA) Match Race Championship today on Salem Sound outside of Marblehead Harbor.
The Jumbo coed team was also in action at the Danmark Trophy hosted by the U.S. Coast Guard Academy today and is in 16th place after one day of action.
In the opening round robin of the New England Match Race Championship today, Tufts won three and lost four to place sixth out of eight teams. The wins came against Coast Guard, Maine Maritime and Bowdoin, while the losses were to Brown, Yale, Boston University and Dartmouth.
As the sixth-place team heading into the quarterfinal knock-out round, Tufts faced #3 Yale and lost 2-1. Yale won the first race, but Tufts tied the round at 1-1 before Yale won the decisive third race. The Jumbos were eliminated from action with the loss.
The Tufts starting lineup for the Championship was not available at the time of this release.
Brown will face Coast Guard and Dartmouth will go against Yale in the semifinals on Sunday. The winners will meet to determine the NEISA Match Race title.
At the Danmark Trophy, five A division races and four B division races were held on Saturday. Tufts posted scores of 70 in A's and 42 in B's for a 112 team total that is 16th.

Brown University leads the Danmark Trophy with a 37-24-61 scoring line heading into Sunday, when racing will begin at 10 AM.
