Michael Matt Named as Associate Athletic Director for Business Operations

MEDFORD, MA (March 25, 2026) – Director of Athletics Ryan Pisarri announced that Michael Matt has joined the Tufts University athletics department as the Associate Athletic Director for Business Operations.

Matt will oversee all aspects of Tufts Intercollegiate Athletics' financial operations, including budget management, strategic planning, financial reporting and analysis, internal & external partnership, and contract proposals.

"Michael brings a strong combination of strategic thinking, operational expertise, and a clear commitment to supporting the student-athlete experience at this level," said Pisarri. "His background in business operations and his collaborative approach will be a tremendous asset to our department as we continue to strive for excellence. We are excited to welcome Michael and his family to Tufts and look forward to the impact he will have on our programs and the broader university community."

"I want to thank Ryan Pisarri and the entire search committee for the opportunity to join Tufts University Athletics in this role," said Matt. "I am honored and excited to be part of an institution that is so deeply committed to excellence in both academics and athletics. I am looking forward to working with the outstanding student-athletes, coaches, and staff at Tufts, and I can't wait to get started."

Matt comes to Tufts after working at local Brandeis University for the last nine years in various roles. The last two years, Matt was the Associate Director of Athletics for Administration and Facilities after being promoted from Assistant Director of Athletics for Internal Operations.

During his time with the Judges, he served as a sport administrator for seven varsity programs, while overseeing management, travel, scheduling and maintenance of athletic facilities and vehicles. He was also responsible for schedule, contract management, and student-athlete development programming.

In addition, he served as an NCAA committee member for men's and women's fencing for 2019-2023. Additionally, Matt was appointed as an NCAA Athletics Diversity and Inclusion Designee to advocate for inclusive practices. A true Division III person, Matt was thrilled to come work with some of the best at the level.

"Coming in to work every day among student-athletes and coaches that are striving to be the best in the nation is what most excited me about this job," said Matt. "This is a chance to work and be among the best every day. Tufts is a leader in Division III and sets the standard for student-athlete experience."

Prior to his positions at Brandeis, he was a program coordinator and graduate assistant to the Director of Athletics at Amherst College from 2012-15. He was the program leader for Amherst LEADS, the leadership development program for the over 400 student-athletes at Amherst.

Matt also has experience as an assistant sports information director at his alma mater Hamilton College in Clinton, NY from 2011-12. Matt graduated from Hamilton in May 2011 with a degree in economics and Hispanic studies, while playing baseball for the Continentals. He then earned his Master of Business Administration and Master of Science in Sport Management in May 2014.

"I have spent my career working in Division III at institutions where academics are most important, so I've lived these values for a long time," said Matt.

Matt will start at Tufts April 15.
