MEDFORD, MA (March 7, 2026) -- The No. 3 Tufts University men's tennis team stayed unbeaten this spring Saturday afternoon, defeating Bates College 7-0 in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play, while adding a 6-1 win over Division I Merrimack College later in the evening to improve to 4-0 on the season in action from Bass River Tennis Club in Beverly.
Match 1: Tufts 7, Bates 0
Tufts captured the doubles point by winning two of the three matches. The pairing of
Sacha Maes and
Alex Ganchev earned a tight 7-6 victory at No. 1 doubles over Phillippe Kosyagin and Theo Sardain. At No. 2,
Kaetan Mehta and
Javier Gonzalez clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 win against Josh Maller and Eric Diop. Bates picked up a narrow win at No. 3 doubles as Nicolas Ozer and James Sacco edged
Nico Tremblay and
Eren Cheung in a 7-6 tiebreaker.
In singles play, the Jumbos controlled every match to complete the sweep.
Javier Gonzalez set the tone at the top of the lineup with a convincing 6-2, 6-1 win over Phillippe Kosyagin at No. 1 singles.
Alex Ganchev followed with a straight-set victory at No. 2, defeating Eric Diop 6-2, 7-5 in the most competitive singles contest of the afternoon.
Tufts continued its momentum through the middle of the lineup.
Sacha Maes earned a dominant 6-1, 6-1 victory over Tylan Ozkuzey at No. 3 singles, while
Eren Cheung was equally decisive at No. 4 with a 6-2, 6-0 win against Rocco Regnier.
The Jumbos closed out the match with strong performances on the bottom courts. S. Mastrogamvrakis defeated Josh Maller 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5 singles, and
Takehiro Shuda secured the final point with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Nicolas Ozer at No. 6.
Match 2: Tufts 6, Merrimack 1
The Jumbos took early control of the match with Merrimack by sweeping all three doubles contests. The duo of
Andrej Djokic and
Matej Djokic earned a 6-4 victory at No. 1 doubles over Trey Pleasant and Ludolph Wiggett. At No. 2 doubles,
Stavros Mastrogamvrakis and
Jackson Rich delivered a convincing 6-1 win against Tom Van Nooten and Strahinja Djukic. The Jumbos completed the doubles sweep at No. 3 as
Logan Mahan and
Will Moldenhauer also won 6-1 over Milan Zivkovic and J.C. P. Morales to secure the opening point.
Tufts carried that momentum into singles play, winning five of the six matches to seal the team victory. At the top of the lineup,
Andrej Djokic controlled his match with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Tom Van Nooten at No. 1 singles.
The Jumbos continued their strong play in the middle of the lineup.
Garv Bahl earned a 7-5, 6-2 victory against Strahinja Djukic at No. 2 singles, while
Kaetan Mehta was dominant at No. 3 with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Ludolph Wiggett.
Further down the lineup,
Matej Djokic added another point for Tufts with a 6-3, 6-3 victory against Morales at No. 4 singles.
Jackson Rich followed with one of the most decisive wins of the afternoon, defeating Trey Pleasant 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles.
Merrimack's lone point came at No. 6 singles, where Milan Zivkovic defeated
Nico Tremblay in a tightly contested match. After Tremblay won the opening set 6-1, Zivkovic rallied with a 6-2 second set before claiming the match tiebreaker 10-6.

Tufts will take on No. 30 MIT next Friday, March 13 at 4 p.m. in Cambridge in non-conference play.
