MEDFORD, MA (September 20, 2026) -- The No. 18 Tufts University men's soccer team got five goals from five different goal scorers Sunday, knocking off visiting Thomas College 5-0 in non-conference action from Bello Field. 

The Jumbos (4-1-1) were in control for the majority of the contest, and wasted no time getting on the board as senior defender Ben Brown headed home a corner kick from junior Ellis Denby at the 9:30 mark of the game to take an early edge. 

The lead would be doubled minutes later, as senior Xavier Canfin won back a pass from Thomas and fed a ball through to Denby who raced in alone on goal. The junior was able to slot home a shot for his first goal of the season in the 12th minute to make it 2-0. Tufts continued to pepper the Terriers back line with shots, but the game went to half with the Jumbos up a pair. Tufts posted a 14-4 edge in shots in the first half, earning seven of the nine corner kicks in the period. 

After intermission, Tufts quickly added a third goal as senior Ethan Jett netted his first of the season as he tucked a shot inside the right post off of a nice cross from Riley Gray for a 3-0 lead. 

Later in the second half, Hastings Brislin played a big pass out of the back that put sophomore Ben Ortman in on goal. The sophomore striker was pulled down in the box to earn a penalty kick, and he stepped up and buried the spot kick for his first goal of the season to make it 4-0. 

In the 74th minute, sophomore Davis Novak picked up a loose ball in the midfield and shook off three defenders before playing a perfectly weighted through pass for first-year Oscar Suarez. The newcomer ran onto the feed and slotted home with his left foot for his first collegiate goal. 

Later in the half it looked like Thomas (4-2) might get on the board after earning a penalty, but Tufts first-year goalkeeper Jack Kelley made a diving save to deny Andrew Hodgins and maintain the Jumbos' clean sheet. 

Sophomore Julian Ballester got the win between the pipes for the Jumbos, as he made three stops in just over 80 minutes of play. Kelley also stopped two shots in relief. Denby finished with a goal and an assist for Tufts to lead the way. 

The Jumbos are off until next Saturday, September 26 when they host WPI in non-conference play at 1 p.m. on Bello Field.
