Welcome to Tufts Women’s Ultimate! We are a competitive club sport at Tufts University, open to people of all gender identities, and we have TWO great teams: the Ewo and Bwo.
The Ewo (Elephant Women) are a nationally competitive women’s ultimate frisbee team. The Ewo compete in high level tournaments during the spring season concluding with USA Ultimate D-I Nationals in May. Last year, we made the top 8! This level of play requires strong commitment during the spring season, with a robust practice schedule meaning you will see your teammates six days a week between practices and team workouts (and more time for hanging out!). Ewo also travels regularly to tournaments both near and far.
The Bwo are competitive at the regional level and participate in local scrimmages and several local tournaments, practicing twice a week during the spring season with the opportunity to take part in group workouts and scrimmages.
While maintaining a solid practice and workout routine year-round, both teams are committed to having a good time! In addition to practices and games, the teams hold many social events throughout the year, ranging from team dinners to an annual formal.
Our true season is the spring, but in the fall our A and B teams strive to practice together informally twice a week. We work on basic skills and strategy, and have a great time getting to know new players and teammates. Anyone is welcome to join, and no previous experience is required! After the fall, we split into A and B teams. Players must try out for Ewo, while the Bwo welcomes all players willing to regularly attend practices. Information about Ewo tryouts will be available through team social media and at the club fair, and we encourage everyone to come even if they are unsure about their commitment level. In the winter, we work diligently on our conditioning and skills. Our hard work pays off in the spring, when we get to practice outside and play in tournaments. Tufts plays mainly in tournaments sanctioned by USA Ultimate (USAU) with some informal scrimmages; more information on college rules and tournament structure can be found on the USAU website. Additionally under USAU rules, players are welcome to play in whichever gender division they choose.
