PRIOR TO TUFTS: Attended McCallie School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he earned four varsity letters in cross country, two in outdoor track & field, two in indoor track & field and one in soccer...As a senior, he was named the cross country team's Most Improved runner while earning Best of Preps and All-State honors after helping the Blue Tornado capture the Division II-AA state championship and finishing fourth individually at the state meet...He also helped McCallie place third as a team at the Nike Cross Regionals Southeast Championships and contributed to the program's Division II-AA state title in track & field... He posted personal-best marks of 15:29 in the 5K, 9:29 in the 3,200 meters and 4:31 in the 1,600 meters...In the classroom, he was an AP Scholar with Honor, a member of the National Honor Society and earned multiple Head of School's List, Faculty Recognition List and Honor Roll distinctions throughout his high school career.

PERSONAL: Parents Andrew and Candida Combs...has one sibling Nina...father Andrew wrestled at University of Chicago...godfather Matt Eckerman wrestled at Duke and Chicago...grandfather Steve wrestled at University of Iowa and represented the USA in the 1968 Olympics...uncles Rocco and Philip Mansueto also wrestled at Cleveland State...mother Candida was a soccer player at Albany...chose Tufts over Fordham, Vermont, Brandeis, Centre, Temple, DePaul and Iowa because "of the time it gives me to explore and navigate my academic interests. I also chose Tufts because I want to grow as an athlete and be a part of a highly competitive running program."
