Sophie Long

Sophie Long is an assistant coach for Tufts University’s cross country and track & field programs. She joined the Tufts staff in 2024 and is currently in her third season with the team.

In November 2025, she was part of the group of Tufts coaches who earned the NESCAC Coaching Staff of the Year award after the Jumbo men won the conference championship. That team went on to place seventh at the NCAA meet, Tufts' best performance nationally since 2012.

A Darien, Connecticut native, Long was a distance runner at Trinity College, where she majored in mathematics and completed a teacher licensure program. She was captain of her high school team and later captained both Trinity’s cross country team and, as a senior, its women’s track & field team. She was a NESCAC All-Academic selection and received Trinity’s Phi Gamma Delta Second Prize in Mathematics.

Part-time at Tufts, she also serves as Math Department Chair at the Community Charter School of Cambridge. Long holds a B.A. from Trinity College and a Master of Education in Math Education from Boston University.
