Kate Bayard



Head coach Kate Bayard is currently in her 21st season as the head mentor of the Tufts University women's tennis squad, as she has helped the team to unprecedented heights during her tenure with the Jumbos. The 2021 ITA Division III National Coach of the Year, the Jumbos have seen her squad consistently ranked within the Top 10 nationally, while helping guide the Jumbos to a pair of national titles in 2022 by Elle Christensen and Tilly Rigby. Under her watch, the Jumbos have seen countless All-Americans and NESCAC honorees, while her ability to recruit and improve players is among the best in the nation. 

Tufts has won five overall national titles in singles and doubles during Bayard's tenure. Julia Browne captured the NCAA singles national championship in 2010 and Browne with Meghan McCooey won ITA doubles national titles in 2008 and 2009. Brown was a three-time NESCAC Player of the Year. Jumbo players have earned ITA All-American status 28 times under Coach Bayard’s guidance.

  • Hosted NCAA Tournaments in Medford three times. 
  • Ranked as high as No. 3 in ITA Division III national rankings during her time

  • Played at Division I Harvard University, where she was Ivy League Rookie of the Year playing No. 1 singles and doubles
  • All-Ivy League all four years, and two year captain for the Crimson
  • Captained tennis & soccer teams at Weston High School & was Massachusetts State All-Star in both sports
  • USTA junior national rankings #3 in doubles & #26 in singles & USTA national sportsmanship award
  • Lives in Medford with husband Jeff and daughters Hazel and Pearl
