Katie Martel joined the Tufts University coaching staff in the summer of 2026. 

Martel came to Tufts after serving as an assistant coach at Gettysburg College since 2025. Martel was fully involved in all aspects of the program, including film analysis, game plans, practice organization and strength training. 

Prior to that, she spent two seasons as a graduate assistant at her alma mater, Springfield. During her time on staff, she helped develop and implement a defensive strategy and game plan that helped the Pride finished the 2025 season ranked eighth in Division III in scoring defense at 6.72 goals per game. In her two seasons on staff, Springfield posted a combined record of 29-9 for two of the most successful seasons in program history. She was part of the NEWMAC Coaching Staff of the Year in 2024 and helped the team to the NCAA tournament that season. 

As a graduate student at Springfield, she also served as an assistant professor, teaching Wellness of Physical Literacy and Beyond.

Martel also has coaching experience in club lacrosse, working with SWAG and Lax Plus Club in Connecticut. 

As a player at Springfield, she was a First Team All-NEWMAC selection as a senior in 2022 after a season with 55 goals, which ranks fifth in single-season program history. She served as a team captain and as part of the Student-Athlete Leadership Committee.

Martel was a dean's list student, graduated with a bachelor of science in sports biology in 2022 and a master of education in athletic leadership.
