MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- In a battle of 2-0 NESCAC squads, Tufts
made short work of the match with a 3-0 victory over Connecticut
College in their opening match of a NESCAC weekend at Wesleyan
Friday night. Tufts takes on Trinity and Wesleyan to conclude
its weekend on Saturday while Conn College faces Bowdoin on
Saturday in its only match of the day. Tufts and Bowdoin lead
the NESCAC thus far with their 3-0 marks.
Tufts had little trouble in the opening set, rolling out to a
5-0 lead and eventually extending the margin to 14-4. Conn
got no closer than 10 points the rest of the set as Tufts won going
away, 25-10. Tufts had to modestly come from behind in the
second set after a 6-0 Camel run erased a 17-12 deficit and put
Conn ahead, 18-17. Tufts regained the edge at 20-19 and
pulled away for the 25-21 victory. Tufts again had to come
from behind in the final set, down 6-3 early. Taking the lead
for good at 14-13, the Jumbos stretched the lead to 22-15 and went
on to secure the 25-19 win wrapping up the match.
Statistically, the Jumbos got eight kills apiece from senior
Cailtin Updike (Manhattan Beach, CA) and junior Cara
Spieler (Santa Barbara, CA). Updike also had a team-high
five aces. Sophomore setter Kendall
Lord (LaJolla, CA) tossed up 22 assists and junior libero Audrey
Kuan (Los Altos, CA) collected 14 digs.
For Conn, senior setter Marissa DeMais led the way with 20
assists while junior Ally Terlizzi had 10 digs. Senior Molly
Barrett made five blocks and freshman Sarah Shankel paced the
Camels with five killls.
