BROWN, KARP SCORE TWICE FOR UNDEFEATED, #1 FIELD HOCKEY TEAM

First year goalie Katie Stuntz shared the shutout with starter Marianna Zak

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Senior Tamara Brown (Annandale, VA) and sophomore Missy Karp (Berwyn, PA) scored twice to lead the top ranked Tufts University field hockey team to a 5-0 victory against Connecticut College in a game played on the Artificial Turf at Silfen Field Wednesday.

The Jumbos improve to 9-0 overall with a 6-0 record in the NESCAC. The Camels slip to 5-4 with a 2-4 mark in league play.

Tufts opened the scoring 7:04 into regulation. Sophomore Lia Sagerman (La Jolla, CA) scored on a feed from senior co-captain Amanda Roberts (Wenham, MA). Later on with 18:16 to go, Brown scored her 14th goal of the season. Connecticut College first year Aimee Rich (Darien, Conn.) made a kick save on a blast by senior co-captain Jess Perkins (Barrington, RI), but Brown deposited the rebound into the back of the cage.

Brown made it a 3-0 game with 13:13 remaining in a one-on-one situation versus the keeper. Karp closed out the first half scoring with 3:33 to go, and the Jumbos carried a 4-0 lead into the break. Tufts has out-scored the opposition 20-0 in the first half of games this season.

The Camels played a more competitive second half. With 6:30 remaining, Kat Barker (Dedham, MA) connected with Ali Holland (Watertown, MA) for a shot, but Tufts first year goalie Katie Stuntz (Mamaroneck, NY) was able to make the save from close range.

KK Logan (Shelburne, VT) and Abby Hine (Madison, CT) accounted for the other two Camel shots in the half.

Karp closed out the scoring with 4:45 remaining for Tufts to make it a 5-0 final.

Rich finished with nine saves for Connecticut College. Junior Liz Rosenfeld (Leola, PA) chipped in for the hosts with a defensive save. Marianna Zak (Concord, MA) did not have to make a save in 51:21 of action. She shared the shutout with Stuntz, who made one save over the closing 18:39 of regulation.

The Camels will host Middlebury College Saturday morning for an 11:00 am game in New London.  Tufts will visit Trinity College for a noon-time match up in Hartford.
