NEW LONDON, Conn. - Senior Tamara Brown
(Annandale, VA) and sophomore Missy Karp
(Berwyn, PA) scored twice to lead the top ranked Tufts University
field hockey team to a 5-0 victory against Connecticut College in a
game played on the Artificial Turf at Silfen Field Wednesday.
The Jumbos improve to 9-0 overall with a 6-0 record in the
NESCAC. The Camels slip to 5-4 with a 2-4 mark in league play.
Tufts opened the scoring 7:04 into regulation. Sophomore Lia
Sagerman (La Jolla, CA) scored on a feed from senior co-captain Amanda
Roberts (Wenham, MA). Later on with 18:16 to go, Brown scored
her 14th goal of the season. Connecticut College first
year Aimee Rich (Darien, Conn.) made a kick save on a blast by
senior co-captain Jess Perkins
(Barrington, RI), but Brown deposited the rebound into the back of
the cage.
Brown made it a 3-0 game with 13:13 remaining in a one-on-one
situation versus the keeper. Karp closed out the first half scoring
with 3:33 to go, and the Jumbos carried a 4-0 lead into the break.
Tufts has out-scored the opposition 20-0 in the first half of games
this season.
The Camels played a more competitive second half. With 6:30
remaining, Kat Barker (Dedham, MA) connected with Ali Holland
(Watertown, MA) for a shot, but Tufts first year goalie Katie
Stuntz (Mamaroneck, NY) was able to make the save from close
range.
KK Logan (Shelburne, VT) and Abby Hine (Madison, CT) accounted
for the other two Camel shots in the half.
Karp closed out the scoring with 4:45 remaining for Tufts to
make it a 5-0 final.
Rich finished with nine saves for Connecticut College. Junior
Liz Rosenfeld (Leola, PA) chipped in for the hosts with a defensive
save. Marianna Zak (Concord, MA) did not have to make a save in
51:21 of action. She shared the shutout with Stuntz, who made one
save over the closing 18:39 of regulation.
The Camels will host Middlebury College Saturday morning for an
11:00 am game in New London. Tufts will visit Trinity College
for a noon-time match up in Hartford.
