WATERFORD, Conn. -- The Tufts University men's cross country
team placed all five of its scorers in the top 20 of a race
featuring 225 runners, as the Jumbos tied Division I Connecticut
for the Connecticut College Invitational title on Saturday at
Harkness Memorial State Park . Both teams finished with a score of
59, far ahead of the rest of the field that totaled 19 teams.
Three Jumbos ran to top 10 finishes. Sophomore Matt Rand (Cape
Elizabeth, ME) led the Jumbos in fifth place overall with a 25:57
time. He was five seconds out of third place. The race was won by
College of New Jersey's Tom Bocchino with a 25:27 time.
Sophomore Kyle Marks
(Carmel, IN) and classmate Tyler Andrews
(Concord, MA) finished back-to-back in ninth and 10th place with
respective times of 25:56 and 26:00 on the eight-kilometer
course.
Freshman Liam Cassidy
(Brunswick, ME) and junior Scott
McArthur (Denver, CO) were even closer together, both crossing
the line at 26:16 with Cassidy 17th individually and McArthur
18th.
Ranked #22 nationally, Tufts runs at the annual Mayor's Cup next
Sunday (Oct. 24) at Franklin Park.
