JUMBO FIELD HOCKEY TROUNCES BATES ON HOMECOMING DAY 7-1

Box Score
First year Chelsea Yogerst scored her first collegiate goal for the Jumbos

MEDFORD - Senior Tamara Brown (Annandale, VA) scored three goals and added an assist as the #2 ranked Tufts Jumbos defeated the Bates Bobcats 7-1 in Homecoming Day field hockey action at Tufts' Bello Field on Saturday.

The game was never really in doubt as Tufts came out gunning.  Junior Sarah Cannon (Atkinson, NH) got them going just 50 seconds in, wristing home a nice pass on a penalty corner from senior Tess Guttadauro (Carlisle, MA).  Behind Brown's offensive prowess, the Jumbos then took the game over. She scored three goals in 11 minutes - one with 30:39 remaining in the first, another with 26:33 remaining and finally the hat trick with 19:39 remaining to put Tufts up 4-0.

Tufts out shot the Bobcats 18-0 in the half and held the advantage on penalty corners 11-0.  Senior goalie Katie McEnroe (Hockessin, DE) made four saves in the half for Bates.

The second half saw many of the Tufts reserves in action, but similar results.  Sophomore Missy Karp (Berwyn, PA), senior co-captain Amanda Roberts (Wenham, MA) and first year Chelsea Yogerst (San Diego, CA) each added a goal in the second half.  For Yogerst, it was her first collegiate tally.  The Bobcats were able to break through on the scoreboard on a nice chip in by sophomore Michelle Brady (Milton, MA) from junior Lyndsay Beaton (West Newbury, MA). At the time, that made the score 5-1 Tufts 10 minutes into the second half.

McEnroe finished the game with eight saves for the Bobcats.  Junior Marianna Zak (Concord, MA) faced no shots in the first half for the Jumbos.  First year Katie Stuntz (Mamaroneck, NY) saw the first action of her career at Tufts in the second half and made two stops for the victors.

The Jumbos move to 6-0 and 4-0 in NESCAC, sharing first place with Bowdoin. They next face Wellesley at home on Thursday at 5 pm.  The Bobcats fall to 1-6 and 0-5 in the league.  They are idle until hosting Williams next Saturday.
