MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- The Tufts University volleyball team came
out of its three-match NESCAC weekend with an unblemished mark in
league play after defeating Trinity and Wesleyan on Saturday
follwing their three-set win over Connecticut College Friday
night.
The Tufts-Trinity match went five sets on Saturday morning.
After Tufts went extra at 27-25 to take a 2-1 lead, the Bantams
scored a 25-17 fourth-set win to force a decisive fifth set. The
Jumbos prevailed 15-11.
The Jumbos got 20+ kills from seniors Caitlin
Updike (Manhattan Beach, CA) and Nancy
Shrodes (Manhattan Beach, CA) against the Bantams. Sophomore Kendall
Lord (LaJolla, CA) had 57 assists in the five sets. She was
also in on five blocks. Thirteen digs from Shrodes topped
Tufts.
Tufts sailed past Wesleyan, host of the conference weekend. The
Jumbos won by 25-12, 25-16, and 25-16 scores. Junior Cara
Spieler (Santa Barbara, CA) hit at .500 with eight kills and
only one error in 14 attempts. Sophomore Kiersten
Ellefsen (Goshen, NY) added three kills with no errors while
figuring in three blocks. Junior Audrey Kuan
(Los Altos, CA) finished with nine digs.
The Jumbos (13-3, 5-0 NESCAC) play an important regional match
at Wellesley on Wednesday night at 7 pm.
