WELLESLEY - In a replay of the 2010 MIT Invitational
championship, Tufts University once again downed Wellesley College,
3-0, Tuesday night, this time on the Blue's home court. The
win lifts the Jumbos to 14-3 overall. Wellesley drops to
9-4.
Tufts inched out to a 10-8 lead in game one before the Blue
rallied to tie the score at 13-13. The Jumbos responded with
three straight points and held on for a 25-22 win and a 1-0
lead. Set two was a sideout battle until Tufts senior Nancy
Shrodes' (Manhattan Beach, CA) four-point serving run gave the
visitors a 20-16 edge. The Jumbos then used solid sideout
offense to take the set 25-20. Set three was more of the
same, as Tufts used two four-point runs from Shrodes to break the
set open and seal the straight-set victory with a 25-19 win.
The Tufts attack was led by seniors Caitlin
Updike (Manhattan Beach, CA) and Shrodes who each hammered 10
kills, while junior Cara
Spieler (Santa Barbara, CA) and sophomore Kiersten
Ellefsen (Goshen, NY) both tallied five. Updike was the
digs leader with 12, while sophomore Kendall
Lord (LaJolla, CA) dished out 21 assists.
