BOSTON - Running at the annual New England Championship Cross
Country Race, featuring Div. I, II and III teams, the Tufts
University men's cross country team placed fifth among the Division
III schools in the race and 17th overall on Saturday at Franklin
Park.
With 318 runners on the five-mile course, the Jumbos placed
three in the top 100 and all of the scoring five in the top 130.
The five Tufts finishes added up to a 453 score. Tufts edged both
MIT and Sacred Heart, who finished at 454 and 455 respectively.
Sophomore Matt Rand (Cape Elizabeth, ME) was the first Jumbo
across the finish line with a time of 25:44 for 54th place.
Classmate Kyle Marks
(Carmel, IN) wasn't far off Rand's shoulder in 68th overall with a
25:53 finish.
Junior Scott
McArthur (Denver, CO) was third for the Jumbos with a 26:11
time. Freshman Benjamin
Wallis (Dover, NH) contributed fourth-place points with a 26:16
race that placed him 108th. The fifth Tufts scorer was sophomore Tyler
Andrews (Concord, MA), whose 26:22 was 128th individually.
AIC's Glarius Rob won the individual title in 24:08, while
Dartmouth edged Boston University to win the 2010 team title.
The Jumbos race next Saturday at the Connecticut College
Invitational.
