shutout
|
WATERVILLE, Me. - Senior co-captain Sarah Nolet
(Los Altos, CA) had a penalty kick in the opening half and first
year Maeve
Stewart (Palo Alto, CA) added an insurance goal in the second
half as Tufts University took a 2-0 victory over Colby College in
New England Small College Athletic Conference women's soccer
Saturday.
Tufts won its third in a row, moving to 4-2-2 overall and 3-1-1
in conference play, while the Mules fall to 3-3-3 and 0-3-3 in the
league.
The Jumbos were awarded a penalty kick after a trip in the
penalty area. Colby goaltender Jayde Bennett (Lynn, MA) guessed the
right way on the kick, but Nolet put in a perfect shot to the right
corner at 22:57 of the opening half.
Ten minutes into the second half, Jumbo junior Alix Michael
(Mercer Island, WA) dribbled in from the right side and made a
short cross to Stewart. She hit a one-timer that deflected off a
Colby player into the right side of the net at 56:44, Stewart's
fourth goal of the year.
Junior Phoebe
Hanley (Mamaroneck, NY) and first year Kristin
Wright (Austin, TX) combined for three saves for the Tufts
shutout. They have allowed a goal since two weeks ago against
Wesleyan (Sep. 25). Jayde Bennett (Lynn, MA) stopped seven shots
for Colby.
