NORTON -- Jumbo swimmers were the fastest in 12 events, and
senior quad-captain Rob Matera (Trumbull, CT) won
both diving events, as Tufts wrapped up the regular season with a
non-scoring, two-day meet at the Wheaton College Invitational on
Friday and Saturday.
Sophomore Owen Rood (Branford, CT) had a hand
in four Tufts wins. His 1:46.75 time in the 200 freestyle was the
fastest. He was also a member of the winning 400 medley relay
(3:35.67), 400 freestyle relay (3:12.22), and 200 free relay
(1:27.01).
Matera was way ahead of the field while winning 11-dive programs
off the one-meter (479.85 points) and three-meter (492.65) boards.
Sophomore Andrew Vidikan (Littleton, CO) posted
the best times in both the 1,000 freestyle and the 200 butterfly.
His times were 10:21.01 and 2:01.86, respectively.
Two freshman were the first to touch for Tufts. Jack
Thomas (Randolph, NJ) swam a time of 49.24 seconds in the
100 freestyle and Benjamin Newman (Bloomington,
IN) timed 2:00.69 in the 200 individual medley.
Adding to Vidikan's 1,000 free win, senior Kyle Jones
(Clemmons, NC) won the 1,650 free in 17:25.82 and
sophomore Alex Strittmatter (Fairfield, CT) had a
time of 4:55.83 in the 500 free for an impressive performance in
the distances by Tufts.
Junior Eddie Mayerson (Teaneck, NJ) was fastest
to the wall in the 400 individual medley (4:19.65). Sophomore
Matt Richmond (Portland, OR) took the 200
breaststroke in a 2:19.90 finish.
In the relays, sophomore E.J. Testa (Cheshire,
CT) led off the 400 medley and anchored the 400 free.
Juniors David Meyer (Clarendon Hills, IL) and
Andrew Altman (New Fairfield, CT) were both
members of the 200 and 400 freestyle foursomes. Senior
Rowan Frankel (Weston, MA) and freshman
Julius Linn (Winter Springs, FL) completed the 400
medley team, and junior Gordy Jenkins (Kansas City,
MO) was with the 200 free group.
Several time trials were also held at the meet.
Tufts will train for the next two weeks in preparation for the
2010 NESCAC Championships at Williams February 26-28.
