WILLIAMSTOWN -- Tufts University and Williams College got together for a non-divisional NESCAC doubleheader on Thursday afternoon and split the pair of games. With numerous non-league games postponed or canceled by weather recently, the Jumbos and the Ephs added the games to the schedule this week. The Ephs won 3-0 in the first game, while Tufts took the nightcap 12-3 in five innings.

Tufts, currently second in the East, moved to 16-11 overall, while Williams, tied for second in the West, went to 11-18-1.

In game one, Williams College first year pitcher Megan Casey blanked Tufts on two hits in seven innings. She did walk six, giving the Jumbos base-runners. However, they left seven on base.

Williams scored two runs in the bottom of the first on singles by Jess Cross and Allison Hart followed by a two-run single by Cedar Blazek. They added a run in the fourth when Emily Levy hit a one-out double and scored on a single by Oriana Mcgee.

Tufts first year Rebecca DiBiase (Wellesley, MA) pitched well in defeat, giving up eight hits and three runs with no walks in six innings. Blazek, Levy and McGee finished with two hits for Williams.

The Jumbos heated up in game two, scoring six in the first with help from some Williams miscues and a two-run single by sophomore LF Bri Cilley (Wells, ME). Tufts went up 10-0 in the top of the third with four more runs. They opened the inning with four straight hits, including a two-run single by first year 2B Emily Beinecke (Concord, MA).

The Ephs scored a lone run in the third on a run-scoring triple by Levy. They scored two more in the fourth to make it 10-3. Shortstop Merrilee Weston doubled home a run and scored in the inning.

However, the Jumbos kept hammering away with two runs in the fifth. Sophomore 1B Lena Cantone (Southington, CT) and senior SS Casey Sullivan (Berlin, CT) opened with singles.

Tufts junior pitcher Izzie Santone (Madison, CT) earned the victory, allowing six hits and three runs in four innings. Senior Erin Gallagher (Brooklyn, NY) pitched a scoreless final inning. Cantone finished game two 3 for 4 with three RBI. Sullivan (2 for 3, three runs), Beinecke (2 for 3, two RBI, two runs), and junior 3B Kim Miner (Concord, MA) (2 for 3, two RBI) put up multiple crooked numbers for Tufts. The Jumbos finished with 12 hits.

Levy was 2 for 2 at the top of the Williams order.

Tufts is off this weekend and will play a NESCAC East game against Trinity College at home on Monday. Williams plays a NESCAC West Division series at Hamilton this weekend (Apr. 23-24).
