Lord averaged better than 10 assists per set in her first start
against St. Catherine's

ATLANTA -- The 2010 Tufts University volleyball team opened the
new season with losses to St. Catherine's University of Minnesota
and to host Emory College at the Emory Classic on Friday.
Coach Cora Thompson's Jumbos opened played with a tough five-set
loss to St. Catherine's in the afternoon. Down 2-1 in games, the
Jumbos won the fourth 25-15 to even the match at 2-2. The decisive
fifth game went extra, with the Wildcats winning 18-16 to take the
match 3-2.
Senior co-captain Caitlin
Updike (Manhattan Beach, CA) and junior Cara
Spieler (Santa Barbara, CA) led the Jumbos offensively with 16
kills apiece. Making her first start at setter, sophomore Kendall
Lord (LaJolla, CA) finished with 52 assists in the five sets.
She was also the digs leader with 23.
Tufts faced third-ranked Emory on Friday night and lost in three
straight. The game scores were 25-17, 25-19, 25-19 as the Eagles
improved to 8-0 this fall.
Updike was good for 11 kills with just two errors in 40 swings
in the Emory match. Junior Audrey Kuan
(Los Altos, CA) had 10 digs to pace Tufts defensively.
The Jumbos (0-2) continue play at the Emory Classic on Saturday
with matches against Texas Lutheran (11 am) and Gettysburg (1
pm).
