VOLLEYBALL DEFEATS BATES IN NESCAC OPENER AT COLBY, 3-0

WATERVILLE, Me. --- Sophomore setter Kendall Lord (LaJolla, CA) had 33 assists, eight defensive digs, five kills, and three aces in leading Tufts University to a 3-0 victory against Bates College in New England Small College Athletic Conference volleyball play at Colby College on Friday night.  The match was the first in conference play for both teams.

Tufts is 4-2 overall heading into Saturday's 1:30 pm match with Colby, while Bates falls to 2-4 and will play again at Colby on Saturday against Bowdoin College at 11 am.

The Jumbos won by scores of 25-18, 25-14, 25-11, and were helped out by 12 kills and three aces from senior Kelly Engelking (Westborough, MA). Senior Nancy Shrodes (Manhattan Beach, CA) ripped seven kills and junior Audrey Kuan (Los Altos, CA) had nine digs. 

Nicole Russell led Bates defensively with 13 digs and Caroline Gattuso had 10 digs. Rachel Colby finished with four kills and five aces, while Chrissy Gee had three kills and six digs.
