Sophomore Matt Rand was the top Jumbo finisher in
the first race of the season

NEW GLOUCESTER, Me. -- The Tufts University men's cross country
team placed four runners in the top 10 individuallY, but finished
third out of four teams at the uniquely scored Super XC at Pineland
meet hosted by Bates College today. The race was scored 10 deep,
with the Jumbos totaling 192. Host Bates won at 164 followed by
Bowdoin at 170. Colby (326) was fourth.
Sophomore Matthew Rand
(Cape Elizabeth, ME) led the Tufts runners in sixth place overall
out of 78 competitors with a 26:41 time over eight kilometers.
Senior co-captain Jeff Ragazzini (Wilton, CT) was close behind in
26:45 for seventh overall. The other Jumbos among the top 10 were
sophomore Sam
Haney (Essex, CT) in ninth (26:49) and classmate Tyler Andrews
(Concord, MA) in 10th (26:50). Coach Ethan Barron's Jumbos had the
most top 10 finishers in the race out of all four teams.
Right outside of the top 10 in 12th was sophomore Kyle Marks
(Carmel, IN), who ran 26:53. Junior Connor Rose
(Irvine, CA) was 22nd overall (27:24) and senior Andrew Bellet
(Wynnewood, PA) took 27th at 27:31.
The Jumbos travel to another NESCAC site next Saturday (Sept.
25) when they run in the Purple Valley Classic hosted by Williams
College at Mount Greylock HS.
