Eric Douglas swam third in the 200 medley relay that placed second

CAMBRIDGE - The Tufts Men's Swimming & Diving team swam well on Saturday, but came up short against the #6 MIT Engineers 200-98.
The Jumbos opened the meet with a second place effort in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:36.78. This was just off the season best time of 1:36.63. The team was comprised of EJ Testa (Cheshire, CT), Gordy Jenkins (Kansas City, MO), Eric Douglas (Southbury, CT), and Owen Rood (Branford, CT).
Senior quad-captain Joe Lessard (Framingham, MA) had the strongest showing of the team in the mile with a third place and season best effort of 16:55.26. Rood placed second in the 200 freestyle with a Jumbo season best of 1:46.99.
Senior quad-captain Mike Del Moro (Pequannock, NJ) won the first event of the afternoon for the Jumbos in the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.03. Jenkins finished second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:00.81.
Johan Schmidt (Nanuet, NY) won the one-meter diving with a score of 332.85 barely defeating teammate Trevor Stack (Northbrook, IL). Schmidt also defeated Stack on the three-meter board with scores of 356.80 and 245.35, respectively.
Christian Jones (Lewisville, NC) led a contingent of Jumbo distance swimmers in the 500 freestyle with a third place effort and a team season best time of 4:54.59.
The Jumbos ended the meet on a strong note finishing second and third in the 200 freestyle relay. Jenkins, Rood, Dave Meyer (Clarendon Hills, IL) and Andrew Altman (New Fairfield, CT) defeated the B relay of Del Moro, Zed Debbaut (Hood River, OR), Drew Berman (Miami, FL) and Austin Wood (Fort Washington, PA) 1:26.15 to 1:28.36.
The Jumbos are back in action tomorrow at home against Division 1 Boston College beginning at 1 pm. Last year the Jumbos lost to BC and are looking to avenge that defeat.
