WOMEN'S SQUASH LOSES NESCAC MATCHES AGAINST HAMILTON AND AMHERST ON SATURDAY

Junior Alix Michael played well at #1 for Tufts

AMHERST - The Tufts University women's squash team lost a pair of NESCAC matches on Saturday at Amherst College. Tufts was defeated 9-0 by the host Lord Jeffs and also lost 8-1 to Hamilton College. The defeats dropped the team to a 5-6 record.

Against 12th ranked Amherst, the Jumbos were shut out despite playing well at the top of the order. Both junior #1 Alix Michael (Mercer Island, WA) and senior #2 Val Koo (Hong Kong, China) won games during their matches. Michael stayed alive with a 13-11 win in the third game before losing in four. Koo was up early after winning the first game 11-8, but dropped the next three. Junior Mercedes Barba (New York, NY) and sophomore Jessica Rubine (Cranston, RI) played competitive three-game losses.

Barba was the lone winner of the day with her three-game win in the third match against Hamilton. She took the third game 12-10 to win the match after winning with relative ease early. Rubine had 12-10 and 11-7 losses in her loss at #4. Michael also had a well-played loss at #1.

Tufts continues a busy weekend with matches against Saint Lawrence and George Washington at Yale on Sunday.
