Jumbo Women's Squash Knocks Off Amherst 7-2 In CSA'S Howe Cup For Historic Win

PHILADELPHIA (March 7, 2026) -- The No. 12 Tufts University women's squash team made program history on Saturday, earning its first-ever Howe Cup victory with a 7-2 win over No. 10 Amherst College at the CSA National Team Championships at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center.

The Jumbos delivered an impressive performance across the ladder, capturing seven of the nine matches to secure the milestone victory. With the win, Tufts improved to 12-9 on the season while defeating a higher-ranked Amherst squad that entered the match with a 15-6 record.

Tufts set the tone early at the top of the lineup as Vharsha Dinesh earned a decisive straight-game victory at No. 1. Dinesh controlled the match throughout, defeating Quincy Cline 11-4, 11-6, 11-7 to give the Jumbos a strong start.

The Jumbos also picked up an important win at the No. 2 position as Sohni Vermani battled to a four-game victory over Anastasiia Krykun. After splitting the first two games, Vermani took control of the match with 11-6 and 11-9 wins in the final two games to secure the point.

Tufts continued to build its advantage in the middle of the lineup. Ella Hill delivered a commanding performance at No. 4, defeating Kristen Daniel in straight games, 11-7, 11-3, 11-4. Anika Goyal followed with another strong result at No. 5, earning a straight-game win over Alexandra Brown that included a tightly contested 12-10 third game.

At No. 6, Chloe Bergam added another point for the Jumbos with an 11-7, 11-6, 11-8 victory over Fionnoula Brandon. Indira Moshi also contributed a key win at No. 7, overcoming a second-game setback to defeat Kate Grissom in four games.

One of the most dramatic matches of the day came at the No. 9 position. After dropping the first two games, Sora Karanja mounted an impressive comeback against Morgan Chaudery. Karanja saved match point in the third game with a 12-10 win and carried that momentum through the final two games, closing out the comeback with 11-7 and 11-9 victories.

Amherst earned its points at Nos. 3 and 8, but the Jumbos' depth across the lineup proved decisive in the 7-2 team win.
