BARBA SCORES LONE VICTORY AS WOMEN'S SQUASH TEAM FALLS 8-1 AT BOWDOIN

BRUNSWICK, Me. - Junior co-captain Mercedes Barba (New York, NY) earned a three-game victory in the #3 match, but host Bowdoin won all of the others as the Polar Bears took an 8-1 victory against Tufts in a NESCAC women's squash match on Saturday afternoon.

Barba won her #3 games against Monica Wlodarczyk by 11-8, 12-10 and 11-8 scores. The victory improved her record this season to 9-6.

Other Jumbos waged good battles on the court. Senior co-captain Valerie Koo (Hong Kong, China) lost the #2 match in five games. Sophomore Jessica Rubine (Cranston, RI) had a 12-10 win in the second game of her 3-1 loss in the #4 match. Junior Alyse Vinosky (West Hartford, CT) was up 1-0 after an 11-8 win to open the #5 match, but lost in four.

Tufts, now with a 5-10 record, plays at the NESCAC Championships hosted by Trinity College next weekend (Feb. 4-6).
