HANOVER, NH - A handful of Tufts University women's track & field team members traveled to Coach Kristen Morwick's alma mater on Sunday to compete at the Dartmouth Relays. In a meet at which only the top six scored in each event (typically it's the top eight), the Jumbos scored two points and placed 19th.
The lone Jumbo to score was sophomore thrower Kelly Allen (Norton, MA) in the shot put. Her distance of 40'7 3/4" (12.39m) was good for fifth place.
Tufts had a few other efforts that would have placed at a regularly scored meet. Senior tri-captain Kanku Kabongo (Abington, MA) was seventh in the triple jump with a 35'5 1/4" (10.8m) leap. She also led off the 4x200 relay foursome that finished seventh with a 1:52.45 time. The group also included first year Jana Hieber (Goffstown, NH), first year Kristen Roberts (Marlborough, MA) and sophomore Sam Bissonnette (Bridgewater, MA).
Allen also added an eighth place in the weight throw, reaching 44'6 3/4" (13.58m) with her toss. Bissonnette qualified for the semi-finals in the 60-meter dash and ended up 13th with a time of 8.38 seconds.
On Saturday, Tufts hosts is first home invitational of the season at the Gantcher Center.
