CLINTON, NY - Juniors Lia Sagerman (LaJolla, CA) and Kelsey Perkins (Barrington, RI) each scored a goal, and senior Mariana Zak (Concord, MA) posted her fourth solo shutout of the year as nationally ranked No. 13 Tufts University defeated Hamilton College 2-0 in a NESCAC game at Hamilton's Campus Road Athletic Field on Saturday.
Sophomore Chelsea Yogerst (San Diego, CA) and Emily Cannon (Atkinson, NH) were each credited with an assist for the Jumbos. Tufts now has a six-game winning streak during which they have outscored their opponents 32-4.
First-year Victoria Trentini recorded eight saves for the Continentals. Tufts held a 10-1 advantage in shots on goal, and took eight penalty corners to Hamilton's one.
Tufts (11-2, 7-2 NESCAC) has secured a home berth into the NESCAC Championship that begins next Saturday. Hamilton (5-8 overall, 3-7 NESCAC) is now in eighth place in the NESCAC standings with no conference games remaining. The top eight teams automatically qualify for the NESCAC championship tournament. The final NESCAC conference games will be played on Wednesday (Oct. 26).
The Jumbos got on the board first 24:48 into the first half when Sagerman scored her 10th goal of the year. She is now tied for the team lead in 2011. It was the third assist this year for Yogerst.
Tufts held a 1-0 halftime lead, and doubled that lead just over five minutes into the second half when Perkins netted her seventh goal of the year. Cannon was credited with the assist, her fifth of the year. She is now tied for the team lead in 2011.
Tufts travels to Bowdoin College for a NESCAC showdown on Wednesday at 5 pm. Hamilton will be at Bowdoin for a NESCAC championship quarterfinal game next Saturday (Oct. 29).
