Co-captain Owen Rood posted individual and relay wins

MEDFORD - The Tufts men's swimming & diving team start the season 2-1 after defeating the Keene State Owls 163-133 on Sunday in the home opener at Hamilton Pool.
The Jumbos started the meet off strong, winning the 200 medley relay in 1:37.65 with senior E.J. Testa (Cheshire, CT), sophomore Drew Berman (Miami, FL), senior Brandon Ching (Honolulu, HI) and senior co-captain Owen Rood (Branford, CT).
Berman continued his winning ways from the day before by winning the 200 butterfly in 2:03.56 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:17.03. He also finished second in the 200 individual medley in 2:02.50. Ching showed his versatility by finishing second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.58 and second in the 100 butterfly in 53.88. Rood won the 50 freestyle in 21.78 and finished fourth in the 100 freestyle in 49.12.
Rood also anchored the winning 200 freestyle relay with freshman Will Parker (Frederick, MD), freshman John Devine (Oxford, MA), and sophomore Austin Wood (Fort Washington, PA) in 1:26.14. Parker also finished third in the 100 backstroke in 57.60. Devine finished third in the 100 freestyle in 49.07.
Senior Lou Tamposi (Hernando, FL) finished second in the 1,000 freestyle with a season-best 10:32.72. Kyle Savidge (South Windson, CT) followed up his strong performance from the previous day with a second in the 200 freestyle in 1:48.67, a second place in the 500 freestyle with a 4:57.11 and a third in the 200 IM with a 2:04.54. Sophomore Christian Jones (Lewisville, NC) finished second in the 100 backstroke with a 54.85 and he won the 200 backstroke in 2:00.16.
Sophomore Johann Schmidt (Nanuet, NY) won both diving events with national championship qualifying scores in the one-meter and the three-meter. The other winner on the day was freshman Mike Napolitano (Fanwood, NJ) in the 100 butterfly with a 53.84.
"I felt we had great energy and a great late-meet surge," Tamposi said.
The Jumbos now have 2 weeks off before they are back in the pool at the MIT Invitational on December 2-3.
