Risa Meyers won all three of her Saturday matches for Tufts

MIDDLETOWN, CT - The Tufts women's squash team earned an impressive three-match sweep against teams close to them in the national rankings during a busy day at the Wesleyan Round Robin tournament on Saturday. Tufts defeated Colby 5-4, Smith 9-0 and William Smith 9-0.
In the November 14 Dunlop Women's College Squash Team Rankings, Tufts is #21, Colby is at #23, Smith is #25 and William Smith is at #28.
Coach Belkys Velez's Jumbos had to work hardest in the Colby match. First-year Ann Bellinger (Arlington, VA) at #4 and senior co-captain Alyse Vinoski (West Hartford, CT) at #5 both won five-game matches. Vinoski was down 2-0 before winning three straight for her victory. The other three Tufts wins came in four games each, including at #9 where junior Hafsa Chaudhry (Westwood, MA) broke a 1-1 tie with 11-9 and 11-6 wins in the third and fourth games, respectively.
The 9-0 win over Smith included four matches that went more than three games. Junior Madison Newbound (Williamstown, MA) was an 11-3 winner in the fifth game of her #8 match. Down 1-0 early, first-year Paige Dahlman (Denver, CO) rallied to win three straight games at #3. Of Tufts' five three-game victories, Vinoski was most efficient with an 11-9, 11-7, 11-3 win at #5.
The Jumbos completed the three-match sweep with a relatively easy shutout of William Smith. Junior Jessica Rubine (Cranston, RI) was dominant in the #1 match, allowing just eight points in a three-game win. Bellinger had been down 1-0 before winning three in a row for the #4 match. At #7, junior Risa Meyers (New York, NY) took care of business 11-2, 11-4, 11-7.
The three wins improved Tufts' record to 5-3 heading into the semester break. They don't play again until January 21.
