MEDFORD - In the final home invitational of the 2010-11 season at the Gantcher Center on Saturday, Tufts sophomore thrower Kelly Allen (Norton, MA) broke the women's indoor track & field team's weight throw record for the third straight week and junior Heather Theiss (North Woodmere, NY) won the pole vault for the third straight week in a non-scoring meet.
Allen extended the weight throw record that she set here last week, launching a 51'5 3/4" (15.69m) to place second in the event. The mark is less than three inches off the 51'8 1/4" (15.75m) NCAA provisional qualifier. Allen also won the shot put on Saturday, her 41'7" (12.67m) just three inches off the 41'10" (12.75m) national provisional mark. Tufts junior Ronke Oyekunle (Harvard, MA) was second in the shot at 41'1 3/4" (12.54m).
Theiss matched last week's performance at Gantcher by winning the pole vault with 11'1" (3.38m) clearance. She also placed first at the MIT Invitational on January 29, posting 10'6" (3.20m) results.
The Jumbos had five victories on the day, four in the field events. The solo victory on the track came in dominating fashion, as first year Madeline Carey (Albuquerque, NM) was first out of 21 entries by more than 13 seconds with her 10:53.64 time in the 3,000 meters.
Junior Dayorsha Collins (Boston, MA), who ran for the Jumbos at BU on Friday, came back to win the high jump on Saturday with success at 5'4 1/4" (1.63m). Senior tri-captain Rosie Xia (Acton, MA) won the triple jump, reaching 34'3 1/2" (10.45m).
First year Kristen Roberts (Marlborough, MA) added a second place in the 60m hurdles with a 9.79 finish.
Tufts competes for the New England Division III Championships title next weekend at MIT.
