WOMEN'S SQUASH SPLITS A PAIR OF CONSOLATION MATCHES AT NESCAC CHAMPIONSHIP

Ushashi Basu won the #6 match against Connecticut College

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - The Tufts women's squash team defeated Connecticut College and lost to Colby College during consolation games of the NESCAC Championship played at Wesleyan University on Saturday.

With their 6-3 win over #11 seed Connecticut College, the #10 seed Jumbos stopped a seven-match losing streak. Tufts got wins from each of the top six in the order. Junior Alix Michael (Mercer Island, WA) took a thrilling five-game match at #1, winning 11-6 in the fifth. Senior co-captain Valerie Koo (Hong Kong, China) was down a game before winning three straight to take the #2 match. Junior #3 Mercedes Barba (New York, NY) allowed just 10 points in her victory.

Ninth seed Colby edged Tufts 5-4 in Saturday's second match. Sophomore Jessica Rubine (Cranston, RI) earned her second victory of the day in three games at #4. Junior Alyse Vinoski (West Hartford, CT) also won twice on Saturday, taking a four-game #5 match against the Mules.

Tufts (6-12) next plays at Northeastern on Thursday.
