MEDFORD - First year Kristen Roberts (Marlborough, MA), junior Heather Theiss (North Woodmere, NY) and senior tri-captain Kanku Kabongo (Abington, MA) each won events as the Tufts University women's outdoor track & field team hosted and won the annual Snowflake Classic at Dussualt Track on Saturday. The Jumbos accumulated 147.5 points to top second-place Springfield College's 130.5 score.
Roberts won the high jump at 5'1" (1.55m), Theiss was first in the pole vault with 10'8" (3.25m) clearance and Kabongo went farthest in the long jump at 17'8 1/2" (5.40m).
Tufts also had four runner-up finishes. The 4x400 meter relay group of sophomores Julia Hajnoczky (Wallingford, PA), Alyssa Corrigan (Wellesley, MA), Sam Bissonnette (Bridgewater, MA) and Toby Crispin (Auburn, ME) ran 4:17.46 for second place. Sophomore Kelly Allen (Norton, MA) had a trio of seconds with a 133'10" (40.79m) in the discus throw, a 140'7" (42.86m) in the hammer throw and a 38'0" (11.75m) toss in the shot put.
Senior Amy Wilfert (Westborough, MA) scored well in two events. She was fourth in the 800 meters (2:21.55) and fifth in the 1,500 meters (4:41.82). Sophomore Lydia Jessup (Seattle, WA) added a third place in the 5,000 meter run, crossing the finish line in 18:38.23. Junior Katherine Tang (Chelmsford, MA) added third-place points in the pole vault with 9'0 1/4" (2.75m) success.
Coach Kristen Morwick's Jumbos will compete at UMass Lowell's annual George Davis Invitational next Saturday.
