NEW LONDON, CT - The Tufts University volleyball team posted a 3-0 shutout victory against Hamilton College in the NESCAC opener for both teams played at Connecticut College Friday night. The Jumbos improve to 4-0 with the triumph, while a much improved Hamilton squad drops to 7-3. The game scores were 25-16, 25-15 and 25-23 in favor of the Jumbos.
On offense, rookie outside hitter Kelly Brennan (Burr Ridge, IL) buried 11 kills to lead the Jumbo attack. Junior Kiersten Ellefsen (Goshen, NY) chipped in with eight kills for Tufts. Junior setter Kendall Lord (La Jolla, CA) dished out 33 assists for the winning side while serving two aces.
Senior libero Audrey Kuan (Los Altos, CA) paced the Tufts defense, as usual. She finished with 16 digs and 15 passes with no errors. First year Isabel Kuhel (Brisbane, CA) was in on five blocks (including two solos). Lord finished with 13 digs.
Hamilton College junior outside hitter Amanda Cohen (Port Washington, NY) recorded four kills in the setback. First year libero Anna Brown (Colorado Springs, CO) contributed seven digs for the Continentals. Cecelie Pikus (Short Hills, NJ) and Sarah Pfund (Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ) both finished with four assists for Hamilton.
Tufts faces rival Williams tomorrow in conference action at Connecticut College beginning at 11 am. The Continentals take on the host Camels at 1:30 pm.
