JUMBO MEN'S SOCCER SCORES FIRST NESCAC WIN WITH 2-1 VICTORY AT COLBY

Freshman Maxime Hoppenot's first career goal was the the eventual game-winner

WATERVILLE, ME - Senior tri-captain Matt Blumenthal (Simsbury, CT) converted on a penalty kick midway through the first half and freshman Maxime Hoppenot (Princeton, NJ) tallied as the first half ended and Tufts University held on for a 2-1 win over Colby College in New England Small College Athletic Conference men's soccer Saturday.

The Mules made it interesting in the closing seconds when Jonathan Sommer (Gauting, Germany) tallied with just 43 seconds to play.

Blumenthal converted on his penalty kick at 21:15 of the first half for his first goal of the season. Hoppenot also had his first goal of the year when he one-timed a pass from Jono Edelman (Memphis, TN) to put the Jumbos up 2-0 at the break. The Mules did not attempt a kickoff with the late goal.

Tufts (2-1-1, 1-1-1 NESCAC) had a 21-12 shot advantage, while Colby had a 6-4 edge in corner kicks. 

With the Mules pressing forward in the final minutes, Sommer broke the Tufts shutout for his first collegiate goal. 

Senior tri-captain Alan Bernstein (Wayne, NJ) had five saves for Tufts, while Ben Joslin (Chicago, IL) made four stops for the Mules.
