WILLIAMSTOWN - The Tufts field hockey team won its 10th straight game, and its third in a row by a 1-0 score, as the Jumbos took the one-goal NESCAC victory at Williams College on Saturday afternoon. Senior co-captain Rachel Gerhardt (Worcester, MA) scored the goal.

The Jumbos improved to 10-1 overall and 6-1 in NESCAC with the victory. It comes on the heels of a 1-0 non-league win over Wellesley on Tuesday and a 1-0 final in overtime at Connecticut College last Saturday. Williams Field Hockey is now 5-7 overall and 3-5 in the league.

The game was scoreless through the first half, however the Ephs appeared to have the advantage in the game. Williams held the Jumbos to zero shots on goal in the half and led Tufts 3-1 on penalty corners. The Ephs got off six shots against Tufts goalie Brianne Keenan (Greenland, NH) before halftime, forcing her to make three saves.

Tufts came out strong in the second half, challenging the Williams defense for all 35 minutes and leading the Ephs 8-2 in penalty corners. The Jumbos fired off 12 shots against the Ephs in the second half. Eph goalie Ariana Spiliotes (Bethesda, MD) came up with great stops in the half and seemed to have an answer to each attempt by Tufts.

However, the relentless play by the Jumbos paid off with 8:57 left in the game when Rachel Gerhardt (Worcester MA) netted the game-winner off a penalty corner.

The Jumbos finished with advantages of 12-7 in shots and 9-5 in corners. Spiliotes finished with nine saves, while Keenan remained at three without having to stop a shot in the second half.

Tufts plays a mid-week NESCAC game at home against Bates on Wednesday. Williams is at Colby next Saturday.
