Becca Rubin added four service aces and eight digs to the Bridgewater State win

SOUTH HADLEY - The Tufts volleyball team stopped a four-match losing streak with a pair of wins at the Hall of Fame Tournament on Saturday. The Jumbos defeated both Swarthmore and Bridgewater State in three sets. Sophomore Isabel Kuhel (Brisbane, CA) was named to the All-Tournament team.
The Jumbos took down a 17-5 Swarthmore team with 25-20, 25-22, and 29-27 scores. Sophomore Hayley Hopper (Carlsbad, CA) led offensively with 13 kills and just one error in 22 attempts for a .545 percentage. Kuhel was almost as good, recording 12 kills with three errors in 21 swings (.429). Senior tri-captain Kendall Lord (LaJolla, CA) had one of her best matches of the season with 45 assists in three sets. The Jumbos hit .331 (51-12-118) for the match.
On defense, three Tufts players had double-digit digs led by junior Virginia Clay (Santa Clara, CA) at 17. Kuhel finished with two solo blocks and an assist.
Eleven kills each by Kuhel and sophomore Kelly Brennan (Burr Ridge, IL) paced Tufts over Bridgewater (10-13). They had another good hitting match, led by Kuhel at .526 success. First-year Carolina Berger (Fort Lauderdale, FL) scored five points on aces for the Jumbos, while sophomore Rebecca Rubin (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY) finished with four. Tufts had 12 total.
Rubin was also a factor defensively, leading with eight digs. Kuhel was a part of five blocks, including two solos.
The Jumbos improved to 13-10 overall with the two wins. They wrap up the regular-season next weekend with conference matches at Middlebury on Friday and at Williams on Saturday.
