KEENE, NH - Juniors Drew Berman (Miami, FL) and Johann Schmidt (Nanuet, NY) both won two events, but the Tufts men's swimming & diving team fell 163-128 in a dual meet at Keene State College on Sunday afternoon.
Berman scored 22 points for Tufts overall. He won the 100 breaststroke in a 1:02.64 time and also touched first in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:17.44 finish. He added a runner-up swim in the 200 individual medley (2:02.09).
Schmidt defeated Keene's Joshua Tuller in both diving events. In one-meter diving, he scored 269.25 points and followed that up with a first-place three-meter diving total of 266.60 points.
Freshman Michael Winget (Shelburne, VT) won the 100 backstroke with a time of 52.99 seconds as the Jumbos recorded six victories overall at the meet. He also had two seconds, in the 200 backstroke (1:57.78) and in the 100 butterfly (52.77).
Freshman Anthony DeBenedetto (Hopkinton, MA) had the other Jumbo first, winning the 100 butterfly in 52.67 seconds. He also added a second in the 200 butterfly with a 1:55.42 touch.
Sophomore John Devine (Oxford, MA) and freshman Cam Simko (Summit, NJ) added runner-up efforts for Tufts. Devine's came in the 50 freestyle in 22.11 seconds, and Simko's was in the 500 freestyle with a 4:57 flat.
Junior Drew Ledwith was a triple-winner for the Owls, finishing first in the 200 back (1:53.93), the 200 fly (1:53.39), and the 500 free (4:35.30). Freshman Cole Hogg won a pair of races, touching the wall first in the 200 IM (2:01.20) and the 1,000 free (10:09.09).
Both Tufts (2-1) and Keene State (3-1) swim next at the two-day MIT Invitational, beginning on November 30.
