Women's Squash Team Loses First Match at CSA Team Nationals Against Amherst, 9-0

CAMBRIDGE - Playing in the Walker Division at the Howe Cup National Team Championships, the Tufts women's squash team lost 9-0 to Amherst College in opening-round action at Harvard University on Friday afternoon.

The Walker "C" Division at Howe Cup features teams ranked 17th through 24th nationally. Tufts is the #23 ranked team and seventh-seed in the bracket. Amherst is #18 nationally and #2 in the bracket.

The Jumbos fall into the loser's bracket, where they will play #22 Connecticut College on Saturday at 6 pm. The Lord Jeffs move on in the winner's bracket for an 11 am semi-final match-up against #19 George Washington on Saturday.

Amherst won all of its matches against Tufts in three games. The closest competition was at #4, where Amherst's Evelyn Kramer defeated Jumbo first-year Paige Dahlman (Denver, CO) 11-8, 11-6, 11-8. Tufts senior co-captain Alyse Vinoski (West Hartford, CT) scored 19 points in her match at #5, but Amherst's Anna Scheidt had an 11-0 win in the third game to clinch the match. The #2 match featured Tufts junior Jessica Rubine (Cranston, RI) scoring 18 points in a loss to Arielle Lehman.

Tufts, which had a three-match winning streak stopped, fell to 10-13 overall.
