Jumbo Women's Squash Dealt 9-0 Opening Round NESCAC Championship Loss by Amherst

Jessica Rubine lost the #1 match in four games

HARTFORD - The Tufts University women's squash team lost 9-0 to Amherst College in the first round of the 2012 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championship at Trinity College on Friday. The Jumbos, ranked #23 in the nation, are the #11 seed and #16 Amherst is the sixth seed.

Tufts drops into the consolation bracket, where they will play two matches on Saturday. They take on ninth seed Colby at 10 am and then 10th seed Connecticut College at 2:30 pm. Amherst advances in the winner's bracket to the quarterfinals. The Lord Jeffs will play #3 seed Williams on Saturday afternoon.

At the top of the Jumbo order, junior Jessica Rubine (Cranston, RI) put up the best fight against Amherst. She won the first game 11-9 before dropping the next three to lose the match.

First-year Paige Dahlman (Denver, CO) and senior co-captain Alyse Vinoski (West Hartford, CT) had competitive three-game losses in the #3 and #5 matches, respectively.

Tufts dropped to 7-10 overall.
