MIDDLETOWN, CT - Colby College, the ninth seed in the 2012 NESCAC Women's Squash Championship, earned a 9-0 victory against #11 seed Tufts, while #10 seed Connecticut College was a 7-2 winner over the Jumbos in a pair of consolation matches on Saturday at Wesleyan University.
After the shutout loss to Colby, the Jumbos battled more evenly with the Camels. Wins were earned by senior co-captain Alyse Vinoski (West Hartford, CT) at #5 and by junior Caitlin Doherty (Topsfield, MA) in the eighth match. Vinoski won the fourth and fifth games to take her match. Doherty won a hard-fought 11-9, 11-9, 9-11 11-8 match.
Tufts also had two five-game losses against the Camels. At #2, senior co-captain Mercedes Barba (New York, NY) was up 2-1 before dropping the final two games. Jumbo junior Hafsa Chaudhry (Westwood, MA) won the first two games in the sixth match, but lost the next three.
Against Colby, Tufts had three four-game losses. First-year Ann Bellinger (Arlington, VA) won 11-8 in the first game at #4, but lost the rest. Jumbo junior Ushashi Basu (Darient, CT) had a 11-5 win in the second game to tie the #7 match 1-1, but Colby's Coco Cowan took games three and four to win. Junior Caitlin Doherty (Topsfield, MA) had an 11-8 third-game win in her #8 match loss.
Tufts plays at Northeastern in a 6:30 pm match on Thurdsay.
