CLERMONT, FL – First-year pitcher Allyson Fournier (South Windsor, CT) blanked Wisconsin-Eau Clair (UWEC), the #15 team in the country, on three hits with 11 strikeouts as the Tufts softball team split a pair of games at the National Training Center on Sunday. The Jumbos defeated UWEC 1-0 after losing 9-3 to Kean earlier in the day.
Fournier, now 2-0 with a 0.64 earned run average, allowed a hit to the first batter she faced, UWEC's Jess Freagon. The Blugoldss next hit didn't come until after two outs in the sixth inning. Eau Clair did have five runners in scoring position throughout the course of the game, but Fournier kept them from scoring. She stranded the tying run on third base to end the game.
Similarly, UWEC's Emma Wishau was dominating the Jumbo offense, allowing five hits and no walks while striking out six over seven innings. However, Tufts was able to manufacture the game's only run in the top of the seventh. A pair of miscues by the Blugolds helped the cause. Tufts first-year 3B Kris Parr (Austin, TX) singled and took second on an error. The Blugolds cut a run down at the plate, but Tufts first-year LF Gracie Marshall (Palo Alto, CA) brought home the eventual winning run with a ground out.
