Box Score
BEVERLY - Endicott and visiting Tufts were scoreless for the first 75 minutes of play, but the newly #22 nationally-ranked Jumbos scored twice late in the second half to leave with a 2-0 victory.
Both teams struggled finding any rhythm on offense until senior tri-captain Rafa Ramos-Meyer (Washington, DC) netted his first of the season for Tufts. Sophomore Maxime Hoppenot (Princeton, NJ) netted a penalty kick to make the final 2-0.
The first half saw Endicott have the best opportunity as Jed Magnusson (Kingston, NH) posted a shot in the opening five minutes of match. Zach Rizzo (Redding, CT) also had a rifle of a shot get deflected by Jumbo goalie Wyatt Zeller (Sea Ranch Lakes, FL) and off the cross bar during the first half.
In the second half, the teams again battled through 30 minutes of scoreless play before Ramos-Meyer netted a scorcher of a shot. He was able to beat keeper Austin Peluso (Farmington, CT) with the assist going to Gus Santos (Framingham, MA). Just five minutes later, on a break-away by Hoppenot, Peluso came out to play the ball but wound up taking out Hoppenot. Peluso was sent off and Hoppenot then buried a penalty shot past new keeper Daniel Higgins (South Kingstown, RI). That put the score at 2-0 which would be the final.
Peluso played solid in net for his first collegiate start. The freshman keeper made five saves on the evening. Zeller was able to register three saves and record a shutout, his third of the season.
The Gulls (4-3-1) are now off until Saturday when they travel to Eastern Nazarene for a 3:00 pm start. Tufts (4-0) now awaits Colby on Saturday at 3:00 pm in their NESCAC home opener.
