Men's Basketball Drains 13 Three-Pointers in 82-69 NESCAC Victory at Bowdoin

BRUNSWICK, ME - The Tufts University men's basketball team hit 13 three-pointers and pulled away late for an 82-69 win over Bowdoin on Friday evening at Morrell Gymnasium.

The Jumbos improve to 7-7 (1-2 NESCAC) and snap Bowdoin's seven-game winning streak. The Polar Bears fall to 8-3 (1-1 NESCAC) with their first home loss of the season.

Freshman Tom Palleschi (Haverhill, MA), who poured in 27 points last time out against Middlebury, scored 18 points tonight and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the visitors to victory. Sophomore Ben Ferris (Essex Junction, VT) notched a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds while junior Oliver Cohen (Penn Valley, PA) and sophomore C.J. Moss (Westport, MA) scored 11 points apiece for the Jumbos.

Bowdoin was led by 17 points from Keegan Pieri while Bryan Hurley totaled 13 points and 13 assists for the Polar Bears. Andrew Madlinger and Lucas Hausman pitched in 14 points each for the hosts.

The Polar Bears jumped to a 13-3 lead, but the Jumbos responded with a run of their own to take a 21-20 lead following a Ferris three-pointer midway through the opening half. The squads traded blows for the next 20 minutes of game time, exchanging the lead 13 times with neither team taking more than a three-point lead.

Tufts took its final lead of the game following an and-one by Moss with 12:07 to go and used a decisive 15-2 run with under eight minutes remaining. Ferris, Stephen Haladyna (Hamilton, MA) and Moss all connected from long-distance in the run, which gave the visitors a 72-58 lead with 5:07 to go. Bowdoin could get no closer than ten points for the remainder of the game.

Tufts held a 40-32 edge on the glass and hit 45-percent (28/61) from the field, including 65-percent (13/20) from three-point range. Bowdoin also hit at 45-percent (26/57) for the game from the field.

The Jumbos will travel to play at Colby at 2:00 pm Saturday. Bowdoin will host Bates at 2:00 pm in Morrell Gymnasium.
