Senior Andrew Shapero was the first Jumbo finisher at the NCAA Championships on Saturday

HANOVER, IN - The Tufts men's cross country team competed in the NCAA Championships in Hanover, Ind. on Saturday, finishing 17th out of 32 total teams. Senior Andrew Shapero (Laguna Beach, CA) was the first Jumbo finisher, earning 59th place overall with his time of 25:37.
St. Olaf won the team competition with 84 total points while defending champion North Central was just behind them with 86 points. Wisconsin La Crosse took home third place with 155 points, followed by Washington University-St. Louis in fourth with 167 points. NESCAC rival Williams rounded out the top five with 218 points in fifth place.
The Jumbos 446 points put them in 17th place. New England and NESCAC rival Middlebury finished in 7th place while Colby took 22nd place, and Bates finished in 25th place.
Shapero led the Jumbos on Saturday, followed by freshman Tim Nichols (North Lima, OH) whose time of 25:53 earned him 100th place. Nichols wrapped up a successful rookie campaign, earning both All-NESCAC and All-New England honors this year.
Senior Liam Cassidy (Brunswick, ME) was next for the Jumbos with a time of 26:07, which was good for 131st place. Junior Nicholas Guarnnaccia's (Reston, VA) 153rd place finish was earned with a time of 26:14. Wrapping up the scoring for the Jumbos was freshman Luke O'Connor (Chicago, IL) who was just behind Guarnnaccia, coming in at 26:17 good for 157th place.
Seniors Ben Wallis (Dover, NH) and Jamie Norton (Groton, MA) also ran for the Jumbos, but did not score.
This concludes the season for the team, who will now prepare for a successful 2014 campaign with plenty of young faces to lead the program.
