HARTFORD, CT - Sixth-seed Bowdoin College defeated 11th-seed Tufts, 9-0, in the opening round of the 2013 NESCAC Women's Squash Championship on Friday at Trinity College.
The Polar Bears won the match handily, taking eight of the nine individual matches in three games. The seventh match was the only one that extended to four games, with Bowdoin's Christiana Whitcomb defeating Jumbo sophomore Charlotte Griffiths (Ardmore, MA). Griffiths won the first game 11-6, but Whitcomb recovered to win three straight.
Otherwise, Bowdoin players allowed fewer than 20 points in seven matches. Tufts sophomore Paige Dahlman (Denver, CO) scored 21 in a #2 loss to Polar Bear Aiden Drake.
Sixth seeded Bowdoin, seventh seeded Wesleyan, and eighth seeded Hamilton all advanced through the first round of the 2013 NESCAC Women's Squash Championship. The Polar Bears will take on third seeded Middlebury in the quarterfinal round tomorrow at 10:30 am.
Tufts faces a pair of consolation matches on Saturday, against Connecticut College at 10 am and versus Colby at 12:15.
