MEDFORD - The #2 Tufts field hockey team earned a 3-0 victory over Colby College Saturday afternoon at Bello Field. Dakota Sikes-Keilp (Montclair, NJ) tallied a goal and assist to lead the Jumbos.
Senior Emily Cannon (Atkinson, NH) got the scoring started for the Jumbos 21:41 into the game as she fired a shot off a corner from Sikes-Keilp.
The Jumbos would take a 2-0 lead into the half when Chelsea Yogerst (San Diego, CA) connected on a pass from sophomore Rachel Terveer (London, OH).
Sikes-Keilp scored the lone goal of the second half on a reverse chip at the stroke mark from sophomore Allison Rolfe (East Dennis, MA) to give the Jumbos a 3-0 lead.
The Mules' best opportunity of the day came late in the second half when McKayla Blanch (Tewksbury, MA) had a break-away, but Tufts junior Colleen Golja (Madison, CT) preserved the shutout with a defensive save.
Tufts dominated possesion of the game holding a 38-9 advantage in shots and earned 29 corners on the day. Colby's sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Evans (Cohasset, MA) made 18 saves in the loss.
Colby dropped to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the league. The Mules host Maine-Farmington Wednesday at 7 pm.
Tufts improved to 3-0 overall, and 2-0 in NESCAC. Junior goalkeeper Brianna Keenan (Greenland, NH) earned the shutout making seven saves. The Jumbos will travel to Welseyan for a conference game Tuesday at 6 pm.
