Fourth Place Finish for Men's Cross Country at Southern Maine Invitational

Jamie Norton was the first Jumbo to cross the finish line, good for a 15th place finish


GORHAM, ME - The Tufts Men's Cross Country team opened up their season with a fourth place finish at the Southern Maine Invitational held at the Narragansett School in Gorham, Maine.  The Jumbos had five runners finish in the top 25. 

Tufts finished with 95 points in the event.  MIT won with 37 points, followed by Bates with 85.  Bowdoin narrowly missed second place, finishing third with 86 points. 

The first Jumbo runner to cross the finish line was senior Jamie Norton (Groton, MA) who finished in 26:05.97, good for a 15th place finish.  Next for Tufts was senior Andrew Shapero (Laguna Beach, CA), earning 18th place with a time of 26:10.82.  Just behind him was freshman Tim Nichols (North Lima, OH) in 19th place notching a time of 26:12.16.

Rounding out the scoring for the Jumbos was freshman Luke O'Connor (Chicago, IL) in 21st place running in 26:13.78 and junior Nicholas Guarnaccia (Reston, VA) in 22nd place with a time of 26:14.14.

Senior Coby Horowitz of Bowdoin finished first with a time of 25:11.51 out of 284 total runners.  Nineteen total teams competed in the Invitational.  

The fourth place finish was a solid start for a fresh Jumbo squad that will look to build on its success throughout the season.  

The Jumbos will run next on September 28 at the Bowdoin Invitational.
